Rio de Janeiro is broken up into zones, each including several cities. You’ve heard me speak of Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon. Bud’s office area of Botafoga, Flamengo, the lake developments “Lagoa” combined with some other neighborhoods around us make up “Zona Sul,” which means south. Not “sun” as I believed until translating just now.

Check out this schedule of Carnival block parties in Zona Sul. There are six additional schedules for other areas of the city. Wow.
