Kwaku Alston’s short film “Children of the Rainbow” wins grand prize for video in Maine Media Workshop’s Spirit of Place competition

Many congratulations to Kwaku Alston, whose Children of the Rainbow took top prize in the video category of the Spirit of Place competition, presented by Maine Media Workshops + College. Shot in Brazil during carnival, the film is “my homage to the beautiful culture and people of Brazil,” says Kwaku.

The jurors included Stacey Baker, associate photo editor for The New York Times Magazine; Edward Earle, curator of collections at the International Center of Photography in New York City; Patricia Luchsinger, producer of NBC Today; and Jessica May, curator of contemporary and modern art at the Portland Museum of Art. And they had their work cut out for them.

“More than 3,800 images and videos were submitted to 11 competition categories from image-makers around the world,” according to the press release.
