I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this.
There I was thinking that I couldn’t possibly find anything more hipster in Manchester that I hadn’t already, when I stumbled upon the Manchester Zine Library. Tucked away in what was effectively a tiny backroom at The Nexus Art Cafe, situated in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, was this explosion of opinion and paper.
I haunt this area of town quite regularly, but I had never actually been to Nexus, despite wanting to. I had recently been researching the Manchester Zine Scene for a University assignment when I stumbled upon the library’s website. It was great because I thought, ‘now I can kill two birds with one stone!’.
If you are unaware of zines, they are effectively just independently-made publications which showcase things like art, photography, poetry, politics, comics and so on. I have taken an interest in them for a while…
