For 123 years there has been a procession in Manchester by the Italian community – a procession of faith. It starts from the deconsecrated St Michael’s Church in Ancoats (Little Italy), processes to Albert Square and then back again. Women are encouraged to wear traditional Italian dress, and many do so in the colours of the Italian flag. The members of the procession carry the banners of local Catholic churches and religious icons, including the statue of the Madonna decorated with lilies.
