Early Animation

I found this on YouTube, its an animated cake. What a wonderful world we live in. This idea has been taken from the very early stages of animation in the 19th century where the traumatrope, praxinoscope and the zoetrope all became revolutionary advances in animation. They all work on the basic principle of a series of images shown in quick progression so the viewer sees a moving image. Back when these inventions were seen as ‘magic’, animation was a word that was not widely recognised however nowadays it is common place in the world of art and design. I find the whole thing to still be a bit magical, not being an animation student myself i am completely fascinated by all the hard work and dedication there is involved in making these moving drawings.
