Over the past four years, archaeologists from the University of Manchester have been working on a project exploring the evolution of the role of Whitworth Park over time. As the project now finished, a new exhibition is being set up at Manchester Museum, entitled ‘Whitworth Park: Pleasure, Play and Politics’.

The exhibition promises to reveal the story of this Victorian and Edwardian park by displaying toys that have been dropped or lost by children in the boating lake, coins, and trinkets. Additionally, the exhibition plans to show the contrast between the behaviour expected of visitors to the park and what happened in reality.

This free exhibition opens on Thursday 22nd May 2014 and runs until 5th October 2014.

When: 22nd May 2014 – 5th October 2014

Where: Manchester Museum, University of Manchester
