Sea-levels are rising and they may not stop for several centuries if the predictions made by two new studies come to pass. The studies found that the massive West Antarctic Ice Sheet — which contains enough ice to raise global sea levels by 11 feet — has started down an unstoppable path toward its ruin. Learn how the ice sheet is melting, and why now, in the a new post for Visionlearning.com.

One reason West Antarctica is prone to "collapse," as glaciologists say, is that much of the bedrock beneath the ice lies below sea level. This vast area is shown here in brown.
