Morretes by Train

The second most popular tourist attraction in my state, Paraná, is the tour which runs from Curitiba to Morretes by train. The most popular tourist destination is Iguassu Falls, if you are wondering.

It takes about three to four hours to go from an altitude of 934m (0.6 miles) in Curitiba to 10m (32 feet) in Morretes. The train goes down the “Serra do Mar” and is in the middle of the rainforest, which is in fact, part of the largest portion of continuous rainforest in Brazil. It has gorgeous views (that we didn’t get to see because it was too foggy!). But I know it is gorgeous!

The building of the train tracks started in 1880, and it was a great challenge for the engineers of that time. The track goes through tunnels, over bridges, rivers, falls and canyons. As you look out the window from the train,  you can see all the cool trees and flowers, rivers and waterfalls…
