Uberlandian siblings Andre and Anderson strive to educate us about their country’s cuisine
The name of Minas Gerais – a state in the south-east of Brazil which borders Rio and Sao Paulo – translates literally as ‘General Mines’. Throughout the nineteenth century, the state produced an estimated 80% of the world’s gold and even today the state remains the main source of many of Brazil’s precious stones. The state capital, Belo Horizonte, is a vibrant and modern city which will welcome the Columbian and Greek national football teams on June 14th for their World Cup clash at the Estadio Mineirao. The state is also the birthplace of Andre and Anderson Queiroz, two adopted Londoners who I discovered after Googling ‘Brazilian Cuisine’. I’m very glad I did.
