Coronation Street‘s former set is to be demolished, it has been confirmed.
The ITV soap moved from it’s central Manchester location earlier this year. The Granada TV lot has since become a tourist attraction, welcoming more than 200,000 visitors since it opened in April.
However, an ITV spokesperson has now told BBC News that the set will be demolished prior to handing over to the site’s new owner.
The set was refused listed status in 2012, despite having been the soap’s home for over 30 years.Developer Allied London, who purchased the lot for £26 million last year, are said to be planning to build flats, shops and offices, with the redevelopment project expected to begin in 2015.
