Here in São Paulo we’ve been facing a huge problem with water, one of our main reservoirs (The Cantareira) is now at 6,4% of its capacity. Here’s a graph of how things have been looking like since 2009:
Sure, part of the problem is due to a big drought, but that’s not the core issue: we’ve been wasting it, A LOT. And I’m not talking just about home use, I’m talking about our pipe lines. At least 30% of the captured water is lost on the way… THIRTY PERCENT, can you believe it?
And that’s not even the worst part! Our governor Geraldo Alckimin, responsible for the water ressources, is opposing to a water rationing. I mean, we will only have water until March and he is against controling the amount of it we consume. Of course, people in the poorer areas of the city already do not have water…
