The Government have responded to calls by people in places across England for more powers to be devolved from Whitehall by saying they don’t trust people.
Despite the government endorsing a report released earlier this week which said Greater Manchester should be given more powers, a leading government ministers has said it is unlikely that they will support a similar approach being taken in other parts of England.
Government minister Maurice Hapsburg MP said, “We are happy to give greater powers and responsibility to Greater Manchester but don’t think this is something we’ll let happen in every part of England. We don’t trust Scousers to wipe their own backsides and we wouldn’t let a Geordie organise a piss up in a brewery so there’s not much chance we’re going to let them run important things like transport”.
