There are hundreds of beach sellers on Ipanema and Copacabana selling everything from hot cheese to coconuts to prawn skewers.
The most common and iconic snack (since 1954) though are these little packs of Globo. Smart eye-catching packaging and the carioca snack of choice. Not my favourite; doughnut shaped biscuits which are slightly sweet or savoury. Not terrible but equally not a taste sensation (like a rusk). Low in calories, fat and with no additives or preservatives. They’re a handy beach-ready, breakfast choice or snack I suppose. An easy, and light money maker for the beach sellers too. When in Rio, you’ve got to try the Globo but perhaps dunk them in something for a bit of flavour and much needed moisture.
