For my first official trip of the semester, my roommates and I ventured to Venice, Italy to experience Carnival. For our first time trying to travel I think things went smoother than expected. The train station in Florence is really easy to figure out and before we knew it we were in Venice taking a water taxi to our hotel. There’s no cars in Venice so you have to take a boat everywhere along the channels that run throughout. Venice (even though it was freezing cold when we were there) literally looks like it came from a postcard. The streets are lined with every designer shop you can imagine–Gucci, Prada, Moschino, Chanel, Louie Vutton– and the city is surround by blue green water full of gondolas. We went to Venice to experience the second to last weekend of Carnival–the city’s version of Mardi Gras. People wear elaborate costumes and masks…
