The people who live in the favelas of Brazil are greatly affected by the Gangs. This isn’t new news, but they are also affected by the Police and their manner of policing.

An article from the New York Times, titled “The Media Don’t Care What Happens Here”, explains this and the effect of the media.

The first story that is presented is that of a grandmother and her grandson. The grandmother had been caring for her grandson and during that time there had been a gunfight outside between the police and gang members. She wanted to take her grandson back to his mother so she waited until she thought it was safe enough to leave. She was later found dead in the street covering her unharmed grandson.
