This Week:
This week has consisted of more site visits. Sophie and I headed back into Manchester to visit the Museum of Science and Industry and The John Rylands Library.
Museum of Science and Industry
The Museum of Science and Industry is close to my heart, as I have worked there before (and still do occasionally). Not only does the Museum have a fantastic collection, but the site itself has played a major part in Manchester’s industrial heritage.
The Museum is located on the site of the world’s first railway station, Liverpool Road. Two of the Museum buildings were built in 1830 for the Liverpool to Manchester Railway, which were a passenger station and warehouse.
Trains still feature heavily on the site, with visitors being able to enjoy a ride on a steam train and to view stationary trains in the galleries.
