
São Paulo contains some of Southern America’s most creative types, including artists, architects, musicians and street artists. One of those is furniture designer Carlos Motta. Motta spoke to Artinfo about the city and his experiences there.
Motta said of the city, “It can be very surprising, as it is still developing. You find spontaneous art on the city walls, under bridges, in unexpected places.”

Motta began making furniture in the 70s from driftwood he found on the beaches when he was out surfing, paving the way for his focus on sustainability and environmental concerns within his furniture. His São Paulo based atelier allows Motta an inside view into the Sao Paulo lifestyle, allowing him to give recommendations for how to make the best out of the city.
