I’m a big fan of the Thames Sea Forts and Project Redsand, and I’m also a big fan of murals, but I’m not yet sure what I think about the pairing of street artists and these historic forts.

The way it has been described by Painted Oceans, who are running the project, is that the murals painted will be a considered and sensitive response to the crumbling towers, with one tower left to rust away, another restored to its former WW2 g(l)ory. The other towers will be painted by some of the world’s best known street artists, including the highly-influential and important Futura.

I am currently skeptical about the project, but am open to being convinced otherwise and look forward to the results this summer.
