The museum Fundação Iberê Camargo is another interesting contemporary ‘Brutalist’ example designed by Alvaro Siza and completed in 2008. The museum is centred on the work of the artist Iberê Camargo, who himself was from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which Porto Alegre is the capital. The building’s relationship to its natural surroundings and the city; to Siza’s design of the furniture and even toilet signs, highlight how the building is engaged at all scales. The building’s physical monumentality is clear due to its imposing form and striking white concrete, but also its significance to the city of Porto Alegre as a landmark contributes to its importance.
