Angelica Dass (above) is a Brazilian born photographer, who grew up in a family that was so diverse, skin colour was never a topic or an issue. It was not until she stepped into the real world she realised the preconception most people had of her just because of her skin tone. She’s been mistaken for the help at a friends dinner party, to a prostitute walking on the beach and so she was eventually led to the creation of Humanae which is an ongoing project that basically aims to strip away such preconceptions and also show that people cannot be labeled by a single colour.

The project is based on volunteers from all walks of life, whose portraits are taken against a white background which is then tinted to match the person’s skin colour. Angelica has taken over 3,000 photographs in over 15 countries and is still going. I…
