What is it about the unknown that drives mankind, in the words of Captain James T. Kirk, “to boldly go where no man has gone before”? During the past millennium the world saw the likes of Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus, Magellan, and many others embark on fantastic journeys to travel to the furthest reaches of the Earth. During the middle of the 20th Century the Space Race saw Russia put the first man in space, then subsequently followed by America placing men on our own moon. It has been decades since man has attempted anything akin to the various Apollo missions that landed on the moon’s surface. However, NASA, along with SpaceX, Boeing and Mars One, are attempting to reinvigorate mankind’s dream of exploration beyond our own Earth; they plan on putting mankind on Mars by as early as 2030.
