This blog is slightly delayed as I have been so busy since the crazy week of Fallas came to an end! Fallas is an annual celebration held all around Valencia in the middle of March to commemorate Saint Joseph. Communities from all over the city build giant painted structures from wood and polystyrene which people go and look at before the ‘La Crema’ on the final night when all the statues are set alight. This year was supposedly the biggest yet as the main Fallas days fell on a weekend and it has now been added to the UNESCO cultural heritage list, resulting in over 2 million tourists flocking to Valencia for the festival.  As part of the build up to Fallas at 2pm every day in the main square ‘Plaza de Ayuntamiento’ the Mascleta takes place. This is a 5/10 minute display of fireworks and firecrackers which attracts thousands of spectators.
