What is the history of Notting Hill Carnival?
Notting Hill Carnival is Europe’s biggest street festival and a vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture. It began in 1964 as a way for Afro-Caribbean communities to celebrate their cultures and traditions.
When is it?
If you don’t know already, Carnival takes place on the Sunday and Monday of the last bank holiday in August (27th and 28th). The Saturday you can attend the Panorama event, which is a free open-air party from 6pm to 10pm. It will feature performances by national steel bands and other entertainment.
Sunday is known as ‘family’ day, you are able to take your children to join in with the entertainment, with entertainment running from 9am to 8.30pm. Monday is always much busier and also runs from the same times as Sunday.
