Manchester’s Missing History: Why We Need a Museum of Manchester Culture

Over the past few decades, Manchester has slowly but surely taken it’s seat at the table of the worlds great cosmopolitan cities. It’s a city that lives and breathes it’s unique culture, entrancing people far and wide with its distinct Mancunian charm. Whether it be our music with it’s raw, guttural twang  or our dominance of the footballing landscape, Manchester oozes cool; cool ingrained in our rich heritage that so much so,  publications far and wide tout Manchester as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

This well earned fame does have it’s downsides however as it has meant that conglomerates have flocked to the city to build faceless ‘luxury living’ skyscrapers. These attempts on making Manchester the “New York of the North” have meant the loss of our shared heritage. From the attempted destruction of Manchester’s historic Abercromby pub to the bulldozing of the Oxford Street Odeon
