North America has some of the most commercialized and therefore easily recognizable Christmas traditions. Of course these will differ from family to family, but the basics are usually the same: Christmas presents go under a pine tree with lights on it in the living room. On the 24th of December, lots of families get together and read the Bible story of the birth of Jesus Christ and the visit of the wise men who brought gifts to the family. Most often, families the kids will get up early in the morning of the 25th and open presents around the tree. Families will spend the day together and often go caroling (singing traditional Christmas hymns) from door to door in the evening to spread holiday cheer.
