Carnival: The Next Generation

Yesterday we all went as a group into Port of Spain to tour Rosalind Gabriel’s Mas Camp. Rosalind Gabriel specializes in carnival costumes for children. The children range from 3 years old to around 15 years old. Depending on each child’s age and gender they are placed in different sections. Each sections has a different theme, for example the young girls (ages 3-5) are in one section with a Make Up costume. We learned about how the harnesses or backpacks are made to fit the children and also be lightweight so the children can walk and dance with them on.

IMG_5558.jpg This photo features the harnesses (backpacks) that the children will wear to anchor the larger parts of their costumes. Each color is going to be a part of a different section. Some of the different costumes are Make Up, Blue Water, Coco Fruit and Fruit.
