Every year on the last weekend of July there is a summer carnival in Rotterdam. This carribean style carnival starts on Tuesday and ends on Saturday with a parade through downtown Rotterdam.
Last Saturday, 28 July my family and I went to see the parade supporting my niece who participated in it. She was one of the ca. 2500 dancers from 25 carnival groups. Here are some pics I took with my iPhone.

This is a group from Bolivia. There were also groups from France, Uruguay and Cape Verde.




At the start it rained a bit but after that the weather was sunny and not as hot as the past few days which was scorching. That day the weather was cloudy and sunny.

The choice of queen reminds me of a song, must have been Gloria Gaynor, about the “Miss this and that” competitions, where always “a flat back white woman gets the price …”
