  1. Funny, I have lived in Denmark for 25 years now in 9 different places and have never seen anybody throwing plates at people’s house at New Year … They might detonate firecrackers in your letter box, but not for good wishes … 😉 😀 I am missing all the fun here!

Firecrackers in your letterbox?! That reminds me of New Year in Berlin when I once spotted someone walking their poodle close to midnight. Neither seemed phased by the constant explosions…

      • Some people take the smaller letter boxes off during that night, or put a container with water inside … 😉

Maybe the poodle was deaf … 😉 … many dogs are afraid of fireworks … 😀 … Germany is worse than Denmark. The heavy stuff like cannon crackers is not allowed here.

If you can accurately work out the trajectory of the incoming explosive then a water container seems like a good solution. Ah the vicissitudes of culture (limiting the size of the ordnance seems good as well)!

      • Through the opening of a letter box there is fortunately not so much scope for a large variety of trajectories. We just put something that covers the entire bottom of the box.
