The M4/M4 neighbour of Manchester, nestled between the bustling metropolis of Piccadilly and the currently-undergoing-gentrification Ancoats is known as the Northern Quarter. It has long had a reputation as a haven for creative souls and independent businesses, and is often likened to places such as London’s Shoreditch.
I always enjoy a stroll around this part of the city; it feels less homogenous than the area only a few streets away, populated by high street shops and tramlines, and still bears the fingerprints of Manchester’s industrial past.
In a previous post, I’ve discussed how Kev at Walking Talking has inspired me to take a more psychogeographic approach to my meanderings around Manchester. In doing so during my Northern Quarter strolls, I’ve noticed an often shifting plethora of “street art”.
