(Brumadinho, Brazil-AP) — The families of hundreds of people missing after a dam burst in Brazil have started digging through the mud helping the search for bodies. It has been nearly a week since an earthen dam broke during lunch and released a wave of slurry from a mining operation in southeastern Brazil.
Many of the miners were having lunch in administrative offices behind the dam when it failed last Friday. There have been 100 confirmed deaths but 250 are still missing. No one has been found alive since Saturday. The relatives of the workers are showing up at the Vale mining company with garden tools to help with the search.
Brazilian police arrested five people on Tuesday in connection with the dam burst.
