The last few days have probably reminded a lot of Brazilians of what they lost when remorseless lawfare pursued under a constant state of exception robbed them of the chance to re-elect former president Lula in 2018, producing a situation in which the refusal of 42 million electors to vote for either candidate allowed Jair Bolsonaro to win the presidency in the second round. The Supreme Court finally lifted the judicial embargo — part of that state of exception — which had prevented Lula giving any interviews since his imprisonment in solitary confinement in Curitiba. On Friday April 26, Lula gave an interview to two journalists from the El País and Folha de São Paulo newspapers, Florestan Fernandes Junior and Mônica Bergamo, respectively.
