A new video has recently surfaced educating people on the term “Triple Point” used in thermodynamics.

In this video, pressure is applied to a liquid in a large flask. The liquid quickly forms into a solid but then starts to boil while still appearing in a solid state. A man by the name of Tom Enstone uploaded the video to YouTube yesterday and asked, “The fluid simultaneously both boils and freezes? Would like some insight here…”

Come to find out, the unknown liquid’s triple point was discovered. In thermodynamics, a liquid’s triple point is the temperature and pressure at which the substance can co-exist as a liquid, gas, and solid. Triple points can also be seen in a single state; as an example. a substance can have multiple solid states and a triple point which it reaches three of those phases simultaneously.

The title of the video was dubbed simply…
