Greetings fellow traveller,

I am now ending a group holiday to Rio during the carnival period and there has been many a lesson learned within our short stay here, this post will just be a few words of advice to ensure that you have an enjoyable, safe and frugal trip:

• Do not get a taxi from the offices inside the airport!

My friends and I opted to use the taxi offices within the airport – DO NOT USE THEM! I repeat DO NOT USE THEM!They cost double the price of the meter taxis lined up outside the airport. The group of 5 (including myself) paid in total R$ 200 to go from the airport to our hotel in Lapa, we later learned that meter taxis would´ve charged roughly R$70 – $90 to go from the airport to as far along as Ipanema.
