Sounds from the other city – Salford’s rise in music.

This year’s Sounds from the Other City  is happening on Sunday 6th May in Salford for the 14th year running. A variety of musicians perform in all of the venues, cafe’s bars and pubs on Chapel Street in Salford. It is an opportunity for the city to celebrate the work of independent promoters, and of course the people of the thriving city of Salford. The Independent has described the event as “a celebration of independence.”

This event has always challenged the thought of Salford being in the shadow of its noisy next door neighbour – Manchester. There are groups such as ‘Young Identity’, a spoken word poetry group who performed last year, and a feminist arts collective called ‘Moist’.
