Vanessa Barragão draws inspiration from coral, rock pools, botanicals, and the cosmos to compose expansive fiber pieces.
Sprawling tufts of looped, wound, and crocheted yarn scale walls and floors in Vanessa Barragão’s elaborate, nature-inspired textiles. The Portuguese artist (previously) draws inspiration from the textures of coral, rock pools, botanicals, and the cosmos to compose expansive fiber pieces.
Each piece can take upwards of three weeks to complete, as Barragão and a team of six studio assistants—including her mother and sister, with additional crocheted contributions from her grandmothers—collaboratively knot the yarn through every single hole in the jute canvas to create lush, biomorphic forms.[…]

I would like to have a room with one wall and part of the floor like that!

They had some of her textiles in The Manchester Museum a few years ago, and they are even more impressive “in person” than on screen!

I can imagine! I think next time I go to England I need to stop at Manchester. It seems to be a very interesting city. It would be great to combine it with the carnival as well.
