No, I am originally from Hamburg up in the north. It wasn’t only his dialect, but also his general way of talking. Both together made it difficult for me.

Yes there seemed to be a certain amount of “code switching” when he thought about time signatures, as shown by liberal sprinklings of English terms used accurately.
