Photographer Kelvin Hudson came across a magical sight that would typically be reserved for a fairytale. While in the forest, he captured an image of a tree partially cloaked with a cluster of blue morpho butterflies. A majority of the brilliant winged creatures gathered around the trunk of the tree while others spread out in small groups on surrounding branches. The resulting image is awe-inspiring.
Hudson was certainly in the right place at the right time to snap this photo—especially considering the behavior of this butterfly species. Adult blue morpho butterflies will spend the majority of their time on the forest floor and in lower shrubs and trees. While here, their wings are folded to conceal their vibrant coloring, and they’ll display brown underwings that provide them safety from predators such as birds and other insects. Hudson likely caught them in a moment when they were enjoying the warmth of the sun.[…]
