Las Fallas (in Spanish), or Las Falles (in Valenciano), is a week long fiesta that engulfs the entire city of Valencia, Spain. Hoards flock to the streets to party and to see the hundreds of individual works of art (Fallas/Falles) that are simultaneously burned on the last night during what is known as La Cremà. Firecrackers the size of your hand called “petardos” are easily purchased and explode sporadically 24/7. La Mascletà occurs daily in the town plaza, unleashing a powerful coordinated display of ear-shattering fireworks that shakes the city. An incredible, surreal tradition to celebrate the coming spring.
