Air Crash Averted (1926)

Full title reads: “Air crash averted by women’s pluck and iron nerve. Woman pilot changes planes and fixes new landing wheel on disabled plane in mid-air”.

Los Angeles (LA), United States of America (USA).

M/S of aeroplane flying low over camera with only one landing wheel. M/S of three men strapping a replacement wheel to the back of a woman pilot’s back [Gladys Ingle]. L/S of woman climbing onto wing of aeroplane. She clings onto the nose of the plane as it takes off. L/S of plane taking off.

Aerial shot of woman walking along wing of aeroplane. Shot taken looking through wing of another plane. The women climbs onto the upper wing of the biplane. Woman climbs from top wing of one plane to lower wing of another flying just above her (it’s the one with the missing wheel) . M/S, from inside plane, of woman walking along wing. Aerial shot of woman swinging under plane. She perches on axle under plane as she fixes new wheel on. The woman then climbs back onto the wing and waves at camera. L/S of plane landing with woman on wing.

Note: shots are real – there is panoramic view of LA beneath plane as stunt is performed. Some would call this woman daredevil, I’d call her mad! AH 2001.
