Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro is facing the biggest crisis of his presidency after the heads of the army, navy and air force all quit and the country recorded its highest daily Covid-19 death toll.
The unprecedented resignation of the defence chiefs is being seen as a protest at attempts by Mr Bolsonaro to exert undue control over the military.
Mr Bolsonaro’s popularity has plummeted over his response to Covid-19.
Nearly 314,000 people have died, with a new daily record of 3,780 on Tuesday.
This could be an indication for another military putsch being on its way …

But it looks as though he hasn’t quite the support he needs to be completely successful. Trouble is partial success has resulted in 1/3 million deaths already…

I thought more of a putsch by the former generals, actually, against Bolsonaro.

But a lot has changed in 50+ years (and it took over 20 years for them to extricate themselves last time)… I think Myanmar is a ghastly example for the world of the folly of trying to repeat history?

But don’t we repeat history all the time, only in different places? Sometimes I really feel that mankind will never learn. We are again in a situation where the rich govern everything, and the rest of us are dispensable. Then people get fed up and make a revolution, and from there it all starts again. This time around I think they are trying to prevent a revolution by keeping people in fear all the time. When people are afraid they accept an increasing number of surveillance cameras and other control systems (it is only against the bad people, right?) and we get this 1984 society. We have to be reminded that we are spiritual beings as well, and that matter is not all that matters (!), that all life is one, and that we hurt ourselves, when we hurt others.
