The Manchester Dogs’ Home fire that claimed the lives of 60 dogs


It has been 10 years since the Manchester Dogs’ Home fire.

The blaze – which broke out shortly after 7pm on September 11, 2014 – claimed the lives of 60 dogs and an estimated 150 were rescued from the building.

In the hours, days and weeks that followed, a huge fundraising effort saw more than £1m raised for the shelter and an overwhelming effort to help – with people rushing to rehome the dogs, bring shelter and food, and do whatever they can.

Today (September 11), the home will fall silent, as staff, volunteers and visitors alike remember the events of a decade ago.
