Nottingham Road: Photos by Elsa Bleda – Faith is Torment

There seems to be a trend towards giving night shots the neon treatment and Johannesburg-based photographer Elsa Bleda follows that trend. What differentiates her images from the others is the cinematic feel of her photos, almost like a Wes Anderson film with “mysterious realities conjured against the florescent-glare of the world as it pretends to be,” which also reminds me of the work of Todd Hido. As she tells Dazed Magazine:

I want you to feel like you can’t recognise a place when you look at it. You’re bringing an alternative reality to it. Someone looks at it, feels the mystery, feels the eerie uncanny feeling, wants to know the story and they can build it themselves. And each person sees a different story with the same atmosphere.
