Beautiful and fairytale-like photos of the forests of Yakushima Island, Japan by Singapore-based photographer Raphael Olivier. Located off the southernmost point of the Japanese island of Kyushu, the remote and isolated setting is home to one of the best-preserved moderate temperate growth rainforests in Japan. With it’s diverse ecosystem, the island has a mystical aura that has provided inspiration for films such as Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke. The desire for a spiritual experience with nature lures many to this island, where hikers encounter ancient cedar trees and rocks covered with moss, adding to the allure of the island.
