This Band of Hope Makes Music for Day Laborers

The band Los Jornaleros del Norte has opened for the likes of Rage Against the Machine and John Legend, but the gigs that mean the most to these musicians are the concerts they play on the street outside a federal detention center in Los Angeles. This detention center holds undocumented workers who have been arrested and face deportation. They began singing songs of protest outside the building in 2010 to lift the spirits of those who were detained. Now they’re using their music to build awareness of the plight of these workers among those of us who live and work freely in the United States.
