Hiroki Matsuura talks about the importance of designing with the goal of maintaining as much green space as possible, rather than asking where green space can be added after other steps of the design process. Through three projects, Matsuura addresses the ideas of shared development, shared space, and shared office, which they see as linked to urban design, landscape, and architecture, respectively. However, Matsuura emphasizes that landscape architecture is notably present in all three domains, as it is never to be an afterthought.
Hiroki Matsuura is the CEO and founder of MADMA urbanism + landscape, a spin-off of the international department of MAXWAN, where he had previously been a partner. Rotterdam based MADMA has designed numerous green public spaces across Russia, China, and Eastern Europe, notably including Senezh Management Lab in Solnechnogorsk.
