‘Top Medieval Historian Reviews Famous Movie Scenes | Part One’

Dr Eleanor Janega, who holds a doctorate in medieval history and lectures at the London School of Economics, rates 12 well-known scenes from movies focussing on the medieval period.

Eleanor reviews both the coronation of Henry V and the Battle of Agincourt as portrayed in ‘The King’ (2019) starring Timothée Chalamet. She explores how ‘The Physician’ (2013) presents medieval medicine, before deconstructing the famous wedding crash scene from ‘Monty Python and The Holy Grail’ (1975).

She looks at the cavalry charge and battle scenes in Orlando Bloom’s crusader blockbuster ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ (2005), before reviewing the depiction of medieval Scotland and the childhood of William Wallace in ‘Braveheart’ (1995). Finally, she discusses duels in the medieval period after watching a clip from Ridley Scott’s ‘The Last Duel’ (2021), starring Matt Damon and Jodie Comer.[…]
