BUILDING BOOM 2022 | New construction in central Manchester & Stockport.

Another Building Boom update, this time from Central Manchester and Stockport, focusing on some of the new construction projects currently in progress.

01:25 The Blade and The Cylinder
02:40 Co-op Live arena under construction
04:30 New affordable housing Gorton Lane
05:05 Sona opposite the O2 Apollo, Ardwick
05:45 Chadwick Place opposite site of Daisy Mill
06:30 Stockport bus station and railway viaduct (Grade II*)
07:00 Care Home on site of The Adswood pub (Grade I)
07:40 New offices on Dale St on site of burnt down building
08:15 Glassworks – controversial glass tower in the Northern Quarter

Certain themes emerge – construction is frequently on industrial land or former transport facilities, long derelict sites are now being built on but industrial heritage is being lost, it’s often good to include elements of an older building into its modern replacement, should every new building be a tall building, even in Manchester’s historic Northern Quarter district?

Also: Will Manchester’s tall buildings be even taller in years to come?
