Pantglas

I shot this footage just under ten years ago, I was originally looking at the relationship my grandparents had with the harsh landscape of west Wales. The footage and project languished in my hard drive as I got distracted by other projects.

After my Grandfather’s sudden passing about two weeks ago, I decided to cathartically go back through the footage seeking solace in what I had shot of him and to hear his voice. This then turned into a re-edit resulting in this short poetic documentary, with music from Aphex Twin.

What I shot was probably the first thing I was actually relatively happy with from a purely film making point of view but it has now gained an extra level of poignancy and meaning not only of my Grandfather, but also a way of small scale farming life that he and my Grandmother championed which is much harder to find these days.

Filmed during November 2014.
