The village of Hemsby on the east coast of England could be the latest in a line of settlements that have been lost to the sea. Andy and Mack travelled here to spend time with residents who are literally living on the edge and believe that they and their homes have been abandoned by the authorities.

I guess people don’t leave Hemsby because they cannot sell their properties … “We will do what we can if you lose your property” is a somewhat vague statement by the authorities, is it not?
This is a problem in Denmark as well. Where I live, the private properties at the Kattegat have to take care of protection themselves, no help from the councils. We lived here since 2017, and I estimate we lost 5 m of the coast here, maybe more. Towns like Skagen and Hirtshals etc. have strong protection on the other hand.

Yes I feel we are all just beginning to wake up to the enormity of the task we face, and the political will required…

Since 28 years it has been mostly hot air from the politicians and not binding resolutions.
