In the 20-minute documentary filmmaker Rajab Mahmood (aka RJ), from Local Arts Blueprint CIC, captures conversations between residents from diverse neighbourhoods meeting for the first time to share their personal experiences of moving to and living in Brandwood and Kings Heath. The film explores how childhood memories, music, food, stories of migration and identity can connect. The result is a deeply moving, at times funny film, and a much-needed space for audiences to talk openly with one another. The Stories Unite initiative contributes to ongoing discussions on race, culture and people’s journeys past and present, not just from around the world, but also across the city of Birmingham. It shows how neighbours and strangers can break barriers through respectful dialogue to help build trust and new friendships in our neighbourhoods. This project is being delivered by Our Scene CIC in partnership with volunteer-led group Kings Heath United Against Racism. The project funding came from Near Neighbours.
